ANZAC Commemoration Assembly & Town Parade

On Friday the whole school participated in our ANZAC Commemoration Assembly. We once again welcomed guests, including serving and past members of the New Zealand Forces, Ron Mark, MP, BOT members, representatives from the Carterton District Council and the local Returned Services Association.

Our very special guest was Epineha Ratapu, the last surviving member of the 28th Maori Battalion living in Wairarapa.

On ANZAC Day a good number of students, staff and families turned out to take part in the ANZAC parade and laying of wreaths at the cenotaph in Memorial Square.

ANZAC Field of Remembrance

Yesterday several of our students attended the ceremony for the Carterton Field of remembrance in Memorial Square. They were amazing ambassadors and stars in the Wairarapa Times Age.
Today were remembered fallen soldiers of World War I by placing crosses in our school Field of Remembrance. This was a moving time as the students erected the crosses and placed poppies on our fence as a sign of respect for the servicemen. We were assisted by Maj Dean Rennie and CPO Len Burland.
We have all been learning about ANZAC and events that took place in Gallipoli one hundred years ago.
On Friday we will be holding a commemoration service in the school hall at 9am which our friends and whanau are welcome to attend.

Wairarapa Balloon Festival

We are very lucky in the Wairarapa to experience the annual balloon festival. Many of us were able to witness the mass ascension at Carrington Park this morning. The sky was a little grey but Peg Leg Pete the Pirate Parrot certainly brightened up the place!
Every year one of the balloons and the crew visit our school, show us their balloon and share some of their experiences. We were extra lucky this year as the weather conditions allowed them to take off from our school village green. Very exciting for us all.
Thanks Wairarapa Balloon Festival crew!

Day One 2015

The 2015 school year has started with lots of enthusiasm and positive energy as everyone returns from their summer break. It has been wonderful to see everyone meeting up again, sharing stories of their
holiday and getting to know some of the new students and families to our school.

Welcome back everyone – and a special welcome to our new families!

There are already some very interesting learning activities happening around the school.

The Junior Hub students (years 1 & 2) arrived to find a ‘Learning environment under construction’. Safety tape, construction equipment and a range of learning resources were scattered around their rooms. They have started to organise their rooms and talk with their teachers about what they need in a successful learning environment.

Our Ngati Mana team of three classes started the day with a powhiri, welcoming each other and building a sense of belonging. This team consists of three classes with a focus on te reo and te ao Māori. The classes will learn as a whānau from years 0-8. Class organisation is: Years 1 & 2, Years 3-5 and Years 6-8.

Our 1 to 1 chrome book pilot class (year 6s) have all started to use their Chromebooks today…with a few teething problems which we will iron out soon. This is a very exciting time!

The best way to find out what is happening at school is to come in and spend some time here. You are welcome any time. If you are not able to get here during the day teachers are always happy to talk to you at a time to suit both of you. I’d love to see you too!

Keep in touch.
